Sparkle 2.7 is our best release ever, and you should definitely update or try it out, it’s a free update. Having now run out of “launch” metaphorical images, please accept this tranquil morning snapshot.
In addition to many fixes and a handful of new features, Sparkle 2.7 confirms and underscores our commitment to the Mac platform, by closely tracking updates and supporting great new features, such as Touch Bar support.
Sparkle 2.7 introduces a refreshed user interface, with support for macOS 10.14 Mojave, and Mojave’s Dark Mode!
We put a significant amount of engineering work into this, to modernize and improve the efficiency of Sparkle, so this called for a redesign of the toolbar, which we hadn’t significantly touched since Sparkle 1.0. As for our original release over 4 years ago, the new toolbar and format bar icons were designed by the amazingly talented Wolfgang Bartelme.
Dark Mode has been a preferred choice for many designers for a few reasons. For one the reduced brightness of the “content frame” improves the visual and color perception of the content itself. Also black is often associated with elegance, formality, prestige, and power. Either way, if you like Dark Mode and have Mojave installed, Sparkle will follow the system theme color, materials and accent colors as well. If you are on earlier macOS versions everything works great and you have the beautiful new toolbar icons.
We made this fun teaser video to introduce Dark Mode:
And here are a few nice screenshots of Sparkle’s new interface in action.
