While our launch revolved around the iPad version, and the headline features, there’s a big list of not-so-small additions (we’ll spare you the smaller ones) that went into Sitely 7. The release of 7.0.1 is a great time to update (the iPad version is pending Apple’s review), and this list might very well contain a reason to. So here you go.
Canvas and editing
Sort layout blocks from the Layers panel.
Locked elements show a lock icon in the Layers panel.
Filter the pages sidebar by name.
Gentler trackpad zooming, with pinch zoom centred under your fingers.
Find and Replace treats straight and curly quotes, apostrophes and accented letters as equivalent.
Angle fields wrap around past 360º.
Number fields accept values up to five times the slider range.
The color button appears in the format bar only when the site has a color theme, and color options have their own site settings section.
The built-in preview lets you quickly switch between devices and see the layout in all sizes.
A visual effect plays while a background is being removed.
Elements
Galleries can work without a lightbox, with an on-click action for each grid or slider cell instead.
The lightbox can be configured for full-screen zoom.
Standalone image lightboxes include WebP/AVIF versions.
YouTube videos inside popups load only when needed, keeping video-heavy pages light on mobile.
Turning off the video full-screen button also disables double-click to go full screen.
Sliders pause while scrolled out of view.
Scroll-triggered effects run inside popups.
Pop and shine effects can play when a popup opens.
An embed element containing PHP publishes its page as PHP automatically.
A page with a map sends the HTTP referrer, for compatibility with Google Maps API keys restricted to your website.
Button hover color transitions have easing options.
Gradient borders work over transparent backgrounds.
Hover effects on the elements of a group play together, buttons included.
Delete the privacy page when you no longer need it, with a warning that the privacy options turn off.
Parallax works with typewriter and animated text.
Website assistant and publishing
Assistant check for text that is too small to read.
Assistant check for a large image above the fold with insufficient resolution.
Assistant check for several images sharing the same description.
Assistant checks flag a missing button description only when the button has a link, and skip privacy items that are turned off.
Identical assets are shared across publish locations, saving upload time and server space.
Publishing verifies uploaded file sizes to catch incomplete uploads.
Publishing uses far less memory on large sites.
Better Compression runs four to nine times faster with two thirds less memory.
AVIF images are encoded in a format more browsers accept.
FTP setup can look up the server address and the domain registration to diagnose connection problems.
Importer
Imports form inputs and buttons.
Imports the more HTML element and properties.
Imports video settings, and handles large video files and missing posters.
Performance and memory
Documents open faster: decoding runs on a background thread, with caches for fonts, text, colors and blog page counts.
Memory use is carefully guarded, and when a whole website is loaded (for publishing, or even for the summary view), it's unloaded as the activity progresses.
Lower memory use: graphics memory is shared between identical images and preview generation is capped.
Page thumbnails and image effects use less memory.
The assistant and the site summary no longer block the interface.
